Meet Diego Ellis Soto ’24!
Diego is interested in how the natural world can be interpreted through both our eyes and ears. With the support of the Global Food Fellowship, Diego uses cutting edge technologies used for identifying and conserving species, to create ‘place based’ Yale Farm music by making the Yale Farm birds sing a song. By combining everyday sounds from our farm – from chicken, to shovels, birds, and laughter – with bird and mammal images captured by game cameras, he hopes to highlight how this 1.5 acre urban farm host critical habitat and nourishment for humans and wildlife alike. Simultaneously, the ‘bird spy’ microphones and cameras installed around the farm will provide us with information on how many species use the Yale farm as habitat throughout the year or throughout the migratory journeys. Diego is passioned to combine his musical explorations with environmental justice and education settings to bring the natural world closer to everyone; from remote national parks to a backyard, there is nature singing everywhere!
