Meet Carmen Ortega ’24!
Carmen is from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and grew up with a passion for food and cooking. Her interest in agriculture is grounded in her paternal grandmother’s upbringing on a sheep and cattle ranch and her maternal family’s history of farming in Albuquerque’s South Valley. Carmen spent her summer internship falling in love with the Old Acre, giving tours to school groups, and snacking on Sungold tomatoes. Her research project was focused on ancient Indigenous agriculture and curanderismo, a traditional Mexican-American healing practice in the southwest United States. She is looking forward to spending her Fridays at the farm workdays this coming year! Outside of the farm, Carmen is one of the musical directors of Tangled Up in Blue, Yale’s folk singing group.
