Avery is from Austin, Texas, and her interest in animal agriculture reform began in high school, when she was exposed to smallholder animal husbandry through volunteer work at a farm outside the city. She plans on studying food policymaking and food/drug regulation, and eventually doing some sort of food-policy-related advocacy work back in Texas. Avery likes used books, magnolias, road trips, and gas station coffee.
